Tips in Using Tropical Flowers for Weddings
Tropical flowers are always popular to use for weddings because they provide a much needed burst of colour, making the event look more festive. These flowers come from regions in Hawaii, Asia, Africa, Central America, the Polynesian islands and South America. Their rarity, bright colours, interesting shapes and unique beauty puts them on a league of their own when it comes to traditional wedding flowers. They are also very versatile and thus, they can be used in a number of different ways throughout the duration of the wedding.
Here are some tips when dealing with tropical flowers for weddings.
First, when using tropical flower arrangements, don’t cut off all the leaves from the flowers. Remember that lush foliage can actually make a breathtaking, dramatic difference. The green can make a wonderful contrast to the bright colour of the flowers. Put them around the flower centrepiece to give it a casual, beach-type feel. Put ferns and other long leaves in the bridal bouquet.
Next, you can choose anthuriums (or flamingo flowers) for weddings because these are very large flowers that look great either as a decoration or as a bouquet. In addition, they come in different colours such as pink, red, green and white. If you would rather go for a more classical option, use calla lililes. These are perhaps the most elegant tropical flower around, and can be used by itself as a simple bouquet or placed in a minimalist vase as a wonderfully simple yet striking centrepiece. One tip though – don’t put too many flowers together with calla lilies. They often look best when they are alone.
You may also use hibiscus flowers, which is the state flower of Hawaii. They are perfect for beach weddings with a Hawaiian theme. They come in a lot of different colours, and even come in two-tone (pink and yellow). Contrary to what people may think, hibiscus flowers actually look wonderful if you cut off all the stems and put the flower heads to float on clear bowls or containers of water. You can put some tea candles as well for a very romantic centrepiece.
Orchids are one of the most popular tropical wedding flowers, which is favoured because they don’t wilt easily. A problem though is that these are often very expensive. Orchids come in a lot of different colours such as white, pink and purple, and can be used to decorate the bride’s hairdo or the groom’s corsage.
